Hybrid
Zuchons (aka
Shichon)
and teddy bears are a Bichon Poo & Shih Tzu cross,
The Hybrid* Zuchons (aka
shichons)
and teddy bears are not a purebred dog. They are a
designer or hybrid dog . It is a cross between the
Bichon-Poo and the Shih Tzu.
The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed
breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know
you can get any combination of any of the characteristics
found in either breed. A close breed to these designer
puppies are recognized by the American Canine Hybrid
Club as a Zuchon.
Also known as "teddy bears" and are also
commonly called Shichons by many hybrid breeders.
These designer hybrid dogs being bred are 50% purebred
to 50% purebred. (Bichon / shih tzu) They were called
teddy bears after the true breed *Teddy Bear due to
the close linage, but are not true teddy bears.
The True Teddy Bear is Bichon-Poo-Shihtzu It is very
common for breeders to breed multi-generation crosses.
These multi-generation crosses help thin out undesired
results such as the monkey mouth of the shih-tzu.
Our teddy bears are F3's and have eruo linage among
the blood line.
Designer
Dog?? What the heck is a designer dog you ask??
A "designer" dog (as the media has labeled
them) is a cross between two purebred dogs. in the
case of the teddy bear or shichon, it is the Bichon-Poo
- Shih Tzu cross, hybrid means each shichon puppy
that is born looks and has the same temperament and
characteristics as one another, and they all have
the preferred features, and do not inherit the unattractive
features, which would be known as a gremlin.
In most cases a standard is written and breeders must
follow this written standard. Only dogs which make
the written standard are to be bred. In our case we
have gone one step further into the breeding process
and have included Euro bloodlines which are...
F1
- meaning first generation True Teddy Bear (later
shichons were nicknamed teddy bears), his father being
Mediterranean bichon-poo, a smaller bichon with Euro
features, such as, button eyes, thinner snout,
softer hair, and long silky tail hair.
Then
the Imperial *Teddy Bear (a Hybrid Zuchon "aka
shichon" The true teddy bear mix Bichon-poo &
Shih tzu). So in our case the
Imperial is the euro linage.
F2 (second
generation True Teddy Bear) with
imperial shih tzu on the fathers side to provide us
with Euro features, such as, the baby doll face
and "Ewoak" (on Star Wars) like features,
with smaller size of course.
Whats
the difference between a designer breed and a pure bred
dog?
Did you know Pure breed
dogs aren't just one breed of dog? All Pure Breed dogs
are a combination of several different breeds. It is only
after 20 generations or so that they are started to become
recognized as a pure bred breed.
As an example well use
the Yorkshire Terrier. The Yorkshire Terrier breed is
over 100 years old and was started with breeding the Skye
Terrier and the Clydesdale (now extinct). These were then
crossed with the Maltese, the black and tan Manchester,Dandie
Dinmont and the Paisley Terrier. After years of breeding
this combination and after so many generation then they
have the foundation stock, then from the foundation stock,
the Registered name became the Yorkshire Terrier.
All AKC pure breed dogs were first a combination of several
different breeds.
You can check the origin
of any registered dog breed and will be able to see the
different breeds that where combined to create that breed.

We also have Micro & teacup Yorkshire
Terriers (yorkies) too!
What's
the difference between a designer dog and a mutt?
Generally, a mutt is of uncertain ancestry. A designer dog
has documented purebred ancestry, and one knows for sure what
it is.
We
believe in Hybrid Vigor or Heterosis, which is an increase
in the performance of hybrids over that of purebreds, most
noticeably in traits like fertility and sterility, however
we drive for the Euro genetics, (such as the imperil shih-tzu
and Mediterranean
bichon).
Heterosis
is a term used in genetics and selective breeding. The term
heterosis, also known as hybrid vigor or outbreeding enhancement,
describes the increased strength of different characteristics
in hybrids; the possibility to obtain a genetically superior
individual by combining the virtues of its parents.
A mixed-breed dog Heterosis is the opposite of inbreeding
depression, which occurs with increasing homozygosity. The
term often causes controversy, particularly in terms of the
selective breeding of domestic animals, because it is sometimes
believed that all crossbred animals are genetically superior
to their parents; this is true only in certain circumstances
: when a hybrid is seen to be superior to its parents, this
is known as hybrid vigor. When the opposite happens, and a
hybrid inherits traits from their parents that makes them
unfit for survival, the result is referred to as outbreeding
depression.
The dominance
hypothesis attributes the superiority of hybrids to the suppression
of undesirable recessive genes from one parent by dominant
genes from the other. It attributes the poor performance of
inbred strains to loss of genetic diversity, with the strains
becoming purely homozygous at many loci.
Certain combinations of genes that can be obtained by crossing
two strains are advantageous in the hybrid vigor.
So what's up with these hybrid, "designer" dogs?
Are they healthier?
Hybrid dogs can still have genetic problems because you are
still crossing two first generation dogs, however the percentage
of hybrid dogs with genetic problems is much lower than purebred
dogs Because the gene pool is mixed. Breeders who breed purebred
to purebred creating a first generation hybrid believe in
the heterosis effect and hybrid vigor. Ours are F3 so third
generation each generation thins bad recessive genes.
Please
read below each dam and see what combinations we are reaching
with each dam and the sire.
Mediterranean
TeddyBear a Hybrid Zuchon Rover
& Son
Rover
our Mediterranean "Teddy bear" was bought from muchadoapoo,
a breeder out in woodlands Texas, because of the smaller size
in Mediterranean bichons, softer and curlier hair, champion
snout structure (thinner), button eyes and long silky tail
hair.
the
Mediterranean Teddy Bear. The
Mediterranean *Teddy Bear (a Hybrid Zuchon "aka shichon"
The true teddy bear mix Bichon-poo &
Shih tzu). So in our case the Bichon is Mediterranean
Bichon which is the euro linage.
F1 - meaning first
generation True Teddy Bear (later shichons were nicknamed
teddy bears), his father being Mediterranean bichon-poo, a
smaller bichon with Euro features, such as, button eyes,
thinner snout, softer hair, and long silky tail hair.
Our
Standard Zuchon
Maisy
our standard shichon dam was selected after researching the
genetic systems of the shichon breed, we are tring to provide
the best hybrid vigor possible for the shichon breed therefore
needed some standard linage, masiy was chosen out of hundreds
of shichons researched at the time because of her genetic
background, she was picked up from a shichon ranch out in
southern California, she was chosen for several reasons, her
bloodline carried Reds (a red coloring that gets redder as
they grow) and Champaigns (white shichons with a bright yellow
gold spots) a rare and acclaimed trait. Strong genetic coding
in great facial structure, giving her the round teddy bear
face, and her baby doll eyes, as well as the unbeatable standard
health.
Imperial
"Teddy Bear"
bloodline
This
is Freckles, her father is only 2.5 pounds. His name was
Rambo. The
imperial linage provides the Ewoak features, smaller size
and silky hair. Freckles is also a dam used for Ewoaks,
as well as teddybears. The
stud for the Ewoaks is a stud with champion bloodlines and
we do not have rights to his photos. He is the same stud
we use with Katie for the Micro Yorkies
Imperial
"Teddy Bear" bloodline This
is meni mouse daughter full sister of Freckles, Her hair
is more silky and the Imperial gene is far more dominate
in her, she has pups that can be as small as 6-7 pounds,
but only one or two a litter.
We dont sell her babies till they are four weeks old becase
of the imperial gene being more dominate in her. Imperial
pups well be born the same size as the rest but there genes
slow down the growth by four weeks they are nearly half
the size as the other puppies.
TeaCup
Yorkie Mommy Katie
is around 5 pounds (TeaCup) Ewoak Mommy!
